Aphrodite’s Rock, also known as Petra tou Romiou, is a sea stack and one of the most famous beaches located on the western side of the divided island nation of the Republic of Cyprus.
Located more precisely between the cities of Pafos and Limassol, along the main road, it is also believed to be the birthplace of Aphrodite. According to ancient tradition, as Aphrodite was escorted ashore on a shell by a soft breeze of light wind at the rocks that are known today to be her birthplace, a moment which is most memorably depicted in Botticelli’s Birth of Venus.

Nevertheless, the beach is extremely beautiful and simply adorable with the crystal clear waters from the open sea, which is the reason why sometimes people are discouraged from swimming there, as it is sometimes dangerous due to the waves that come from the Mediterranean Sea.
Stretching on both sides of Aphrodite’s Rock, there are also smaller rock islets; however, it is forbidden for people to climb the interesting rock for fear that it will be damaged, which is something that could happen naturally. This way, the site will be preserved and kept for future generations to tell the ancient myths to every visitor of the divided island.
